“The trouble with weather forecasting is that it’s right too often for us to ignore it and wrong too often for us to rely on it.” – Patrick L Young
Patrick L Young is an entrepreneur and thinker in financial markets with a lengthy pedigree ranging through derivatives, private equity, cash markets and many other asset classes, product groups and responsibilities.
A passionate advocate for new products which can provide tangible risk transfer and help the real economy, Young has been closely involved in pioneering many new product areas such as single stock futures (LIFFE, MX etc.) and prediction markets (founder of GSX/Tradesports/Intrade).
He is also the author of the best-selling “Capital Market Revolution!” which outlined the exciting prospects for digital markets in their embryonic stages in 1999 as the dotcom bubble began to inflate.
A leading advisor to investors in financial infrastructure world-wide, Patrick is also a passionate advocate for emerging markets. He is currently engrossed in the prospects for the New Europe (amongst other regions).
The idea of “Young Markets” was born out of frustration at the idea that new products and new geographies all seem to be discussed in different silos. Therefore, there was a market for a holistic discussion across regions and asset classes to look at the future of financial markets and the innovations therein from the perspective of all manner of products, exchanges & platforms, funds, and technology.
The conference takes a unique world view of markets which is energised by Patrick’s passion for the future of humankind and a firm belief in the world of opportunity which surrounds us.
Away from Young Markets, Patrick has various other projects in areas as diverse as horeca and financial centres and is a non-executive director with the world’s largest institutional trading platform, Liquidnet (in Europe).
